S.E.Q.U.O.I.A.

The Sequoia Program is a lifeline for our senior citizens in the Clifton/ Passaic community. This program has created a community for our seniors, reducing isolation, creating connections and relations. Our seniors are stimulated by interesting, relevant programs, and eagerly look forward to meeting each other to socialize. Sequoia was started as a Federally Funded N.O.R.C and is now funded by a New Jersey State grant and through private donations.

Weekly program at the Y consist of a current events discussion, where seniors are encouraged to engage in political and creative conversation. The discussion is followed by a luncheon then the seniors can choose between an exercise (TAI CHI or swim) or an art class.

Once a month the program elects an individual to address our seniors at their location, this helps not exclude people who are home bound. Monthly programs are presented by an array of different people, some doctors, some health professionals, some politicians and some musicians.

Sequoia also includes birthday celebrations, thanksgiving meals, monthly blood pressure screenings and more. To find out more or to participate please contact Peal Ricklis, LCSW, at 973-777-7638.
